AI Visibility Diagnostic
The AI Visibility Diagnostic: how ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, and Claude describe your company today, next to your competitors, and exactly where to fix it.
Your buyers ask an AI before they ask you. Whether it names you, misses you, or describes you as something you are not is decided before the first conversation. The AI Visibility Diagnostic tells you what those systems actually say, and where you are losing the answer.
What AI visibility actually means
AI visibility is how often, and how accurately, the language models name your company when a buyer asks about your category. It is not your Google ranking. A page can sit at position one and still be skipped, summarized wrong, or attributed to a competitor, because the model is assembling an answer rather than listing links.
Three states matter, and only one of them is good:
- Named. The model recommends you, describes you correctly, and cites something real.
- Missing. The model answers the question and never mentions you.
- Misattributed. The model names you but gets your category, your services, or your market wrong. This is the expensive one, because it reaches the buyer as fact.
Ranking tells you where a page sits. AI visibility tells you what gets said about your company when nobody is looking at a results page at all.
What we measure
How the models describe you
What ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, and Claude say when your category comes up: named, missing, or misattributed.
How you compare
The same questions, run against your competitors, so you see who the machines recommend and why.
Where the gaps are
The specific pages, entities, and citations the models are reading wrong or not reading at all.
What to fix first
A prioritized shortlist, ranked by what will move the answer fastest.
Start with the free check
Before commissioning anything, run our free Complete AI Visibility Checker. It scans your site against thirty-eight checks in about a minute, with no signup, and tells you whether the models can read and parse your pages in the first place.
That answers the technical half: can they read you. The Diagnostic answers the half a scanner cannot reach: what they actually say about you, how that compares to your competitors, and why. If the free check comes back clean and you are still absent from the answers, the problem is upstream of your markup, and that is what the Diagnostic is for.
How the diagnostic runs
Define the questions
We write the questions your buyers actually ask, in their language, not your category jargon. Wrong questions produce a clean report about nothing.
Run them across the models
The same question set goes to ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, and Claude, and to your named competitors, so every result has something to sit against.
Trace the answers back
Every citation gets followed to its source. That is what separates a content gap from an entity problem from a clarity problem, and each one has a different fix.
Rank the fixes
A shortlist ordered by what moves the answer fastest, not by what is easiest to sell.
Why it comes first
Being found is not the same as being described accurately. You can rank on Google and still be summarized wrong by an AI, or left out of the answer entirely. The Diagnostic measures that gap before anyone spends a dollar closing it, so the work that follows is aimed at the right thing instead of a guess.
What you get
A plain-language report: what the systems say now, how that stacks up against your market, and the shortlist of fixes that will change it. From there the work, structured content, entity and citation cleanup, the pages the models actually read, plugs into your other Visibility engagements. No optimizing for a machine you never measured.
What this is not
It is not a rank tracker, and it is not a monthly subscription to a dashboard. It is a point-in-time read with a prioritized shortlist, and it is worth doing when you are about to spend real money on content, positioning, or search and want that spend aimed at something measured.
If you already know what the models say about you and simply need the work done, you do not need the Diagnostic. Say so and we will scope the Visibility engagement directly.
Questions, answered
What is AI visibility?
AI visibility is the measure of how frequently and how accurately AI systems such as ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, and Google’s AI Overviews name your company in answers about your category. It differs from search ranking because the model synthesizes one answer rather than returning a list, so a brand either appears inside that answer or is absent from the decision entirely.
Is there such a thing as a good AI visibility score?
Treat any single score with suspicion. A number is only meaningful against the question set that produced it, and most tools generate their own prompts by guessing from your homepage. A score built on the wrong questions is precise and useless. What matters is your rate of appearance on the questions your buyers actually ask, measured against the competitors you actually lose to.
How is this different from an AI visibility audit run by a tool?
A tool checks whether your site is machine-readable and tracks mentions over time, which is genuinely useful and why we give ours away. What it cannot do is tell you why an answer came out the way it did. Tracing a citation to its source, and separating a content gap from an entity error from a positioning problem, takes judgment. The three have different fixes, and treating one as another is how budget gets spent with nothing to show.
Does fixing AI visibility mean redoing our SEO?
No, though it builds on it. AI systems discover and evaluate content through search infrastructure, so technical health and structure remain the floor. The work above that floor is different: clear entity signals, consistent category language, and content structured so a claim can be lifted out and still stand on its own. We covered the relationship in generative engine optimization builds on traditional SEO.
How long before the answers change?
Plan on three to six months for content and citation work to register, and longer where the gap traces back to positioning rather than pages. Anything faster usually means the fix was technical and the models simply could not read you before.
Frequently asked
Questions B2B owners ask.
What is the AI Visibility Diagnostic?
A structured look at how AI answer engines and search describe your business: what they get right, what they get wrong, and where you are invisible when a buyer asks about your category.
Why does AI visibility matter now?
Buyers increasingly ask ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google's AI answers before they ever visit a site. If those systems cannot describe you accurately, you are left out of the conversation where the decision starts.
What do we get out of it?
A clear picture of how you currently appear to the models, the gaps costing you mentions, and the specific fixes, in priority order, that make your site legible to AI and to search.
Is this just SEO?
It shares roots with SEO but aims at a different reader: the models that summarize and recommend. The work is structured data, clear answers, and authority signals the answer engines actually use.
